‘The death of Pat Messam has been announced who was the County Physio in Norfolk for many years and joint Regional Physio for the East Region with Tish Wolds.
In the late 1980’s Pat helped Norwich and District RDA provide therapeutic riding for Clare School, a specialist physical and sensory complex needs centre. Christine Stone the Chairman at the time recalls how the improvement in the posture and core strength of the riders amazed the parents who were so grateful.
Later around 2000 Pat saved The Magpie Centre, ( West Norfolk RDA ) the only purpose built centre in Norfolk, by becoming Chairman and obtaining lottery funding to secure it’s future.
Besides this she really enjoyed training, herself and others. She learnt to ride while doing her hippo therapy courses. Not content with the local riding school she travelled to a Spanish School of riding and spent many hours on a horse being lunged to perfect her position and extend her knowledge. She and Tish were a great double act at the training days she organised at the Magpie Centre.
Pat though a quiet gentle person had great strength of character and resilience who made a difference to so many of us in Norfolk.
