We are very sorry to have to report the sad loss of Shirley Green, who was involved with RDA from the early 1980’s.
She was a founder member of the Felixstowe and District Group and later relocated to Shottisham where she ran the newly established Poplar Park Equestrian Centre and helped form the Hollesley RDA Group. After several years at Poplar Park the Group was offered the opportunity to lease some land and disused farm buildings nearby. Poplar Park was becoming busier and it seemed the right time for a move. Shirley, her husband Peter and several committee members practically re-built the stables themselves, eventually adding an indoor school making it one of Suffolk’s first purpose-built RDA centres.
Shirley was also involved in the County and East Region, where she held the position of Suffolk County Coach until 2017. She worked tirelessly for RDA, always officiated at the Regional Qualifiers and the National Championships at Hartpury, and received the Presidents Award in 2014. Outside of RDA, Shirley was also on the Suffolk BHS committee and held the post of Riding and Road Safety Officer for many years in addition to being very involved with the Pony Club.
Shirley touched so many lives in Suffolk and will be sorely missed. Our thoughts are with her family.
