RDA East at the National AGM
On 10th November delegates, supporters and participants from across the country descended on Saddlers' Hall in London for the 2017 national RDA AGM. The East region was well represented with a number of notable appearances!
RDA East Region Chairman, Gay Redman, was recognised and rewarded for her decades of efforts by being presented with the RDA Regional Volunteer of the Year Award. This new award is designed to recognise the service of those who help not only in individual groups but also on a regional scale. Gay has guided the East Region for several years and has been involved with the RDA for many more! Over her years of volunteering she has hosted RDA holidays, organised RDA polo and overseen countless competitions and fundraising events. She was also chairman of Cambs College RDA for several years and is still involved in the group, which has become one of the most successful in the country. Gay's endless patience and enthusiasm are essential for the admin side of the job but she is also sensitive to the needs of RDA horses and participants. We are very proud of her and delighted that she has won this national award!
Of three RDA volunteers honoured with a President's Award this year, two were from the East Region. The President's Award is one of the highest accolades within the RDA and is only given to individuals who have demonstrated exemplary dedication to the RDA over a sustained period of time. After all, the President of the RDA is HRH Princess Anne! The two East Region recipients were Kath Hatwell (Barrow Farm) and Sarah Baker (Herts and Essex Border).
Finally, the East Region's Participant Representative, Lizzie Bennett (Cambs College), gave a talk on how becoming involved in the RDA changes lives for all participants and for the people around them.
